MX-01 Crawler Hop-Up Guide

The MX-01 is Kyosho's 1/27 micro crawler. Here's how to make it crawl better, look better, and survive longer.

MX-01

The MX-01 is a different animal from the MR-03 and MA-020 family. It’s a micro crawler — four-wheel drive, portal axles, and designed for slow, technical terrain navigation rather than racing.

Hop-ups for crawlers focus on articulation, traction, and durability rather than speed.

Tires and Wheels

Stock MX-01 tires are decent but benefit from replacement with softer, more aggressive compounds. Look for tires with a crawler-style tread pattern that grips rocks and raised terrain.

Foam inserts can be added or replaced to tune tire compliance. Softer foam allows the tire to conform to irregular surfaces.

The MX-01’s suspension travel is the key to crawling ability. Longer, softer links increase articulation — how far the suspension can flex before a wheel lifts. Aluminum replacement links are more durable than plastic stock parts.

Chassis Weights

Adding low-mounted weight (chassis weights or a heavier battery) lowers the center of gravity and improves stability on side slopes. This is cheap and effective.

Body Options

The MX-01 accepts a range of scale truck bodies. Look for lifted body mounts if you want more tire clearance after installing larger tires.
